Every year 22,000 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and
within 5 years, 15,000 of them will die. There is no reliable screening test for early detection of ovarian
cancer.
The Lowcountry Women with Wings program was established by Terry
Scharstein, an ovarian cancer patient, in partnership with the Center
for Women.
Lowcountry Women with Wings provides education and support services
to women diagnosed with ovarian cancer, their caregivers and families.
The Center for Women offers programs on legal, financial and
family issues as well as individual counseling. Counseling is for women who need assistance dealing with health problems and identifying community resources that can address needs. |
